Monday Madness – Carl Thurm

Posted in genealogy, Thurm at 3:57 PM by Kris P

Monday MadnessThis particular small brickwall shouldn’t be that hard to knock down. Carl Thurm is my great-great-grandfather, father to Emma Thurm, who is mother to Francis Charles Assenheimer (my grandfather). We’ll get into Emma later, but right now I want to focus on her father, Charles Thurm, otherwise known as Carl.

1880 US federal census puts him in New Orleans, Louisiana as a grocer (known), and a widower. In that census he is also with a “Mary Balser” listed as a servant. His place of birth is noted as “Saxony”, as are his parents’.

Known: He came from Germany.

Unknown: when did he do this?

Known: he is listed as a widower in the 1880 census. By December 30, 1880 he had married Franziska Wirth, widow of George Degenhardt.

Unknown: his first wife?
